A natural acid made from raw materials of vinous origin intended for use as a food additive. It is presented in the form of a colorless monoclinic crystal or in the form of a white powder that is odorless and has a pleasant acid flavor.

It is included as a food additive with code E-334 INS-334 and is used as a natural acidulant and preservative, as flavor enhancer in sweets, candies, jellies, ice cream and fruit juices. It is also used as an ingredient in yeast and as an emulsifier in the baking industry.
